City break in Bristol :) Part 1

sdrWhen I think of Bristol, I, immediately have the image of one of the nicest and interesting cities in the UK. This city has such a positive vibe and so many things to offer that it’s impossible to don’t love it.

It was one of those days when I felt the need to get out of Exeter. As I was having a week off, I have decided to go to Cardiff and Bristol. My colleagues told me a lot about their experiences in Bristol so I have decided to give it a chance and visit it.

Packed everything, bought my coach ticket and the holiday started. Did the booking for the accommodation while I was on the road so I was ready for a new adventure.

When I finally arrived, the first impression was awful. The coach station was in the refurbishment process and the weather was absolute nightmare. Pouring. As there were no taxis available,I started to walk up to the hotel. And step by step, admiring the view and getting soaked (as I never have an umbrella with me) , I started to like the city. Even on bad weather was lovely. I stayed at Ibis city center hotel where the guys were fantastic. They gave me so much info about the city and what to do. I checked into my room and took a look at the map provided. I checked what is to see nearby and I went for a walk. The Aquarium(DEFINITELY A MUST SEE) and We The Curious were right next to the hotel. After a short walk ,I arrived at the harbor, where you can find restaurants and pubs. They have a really good variety in terms of food and drinks.

After getting lost on the streets of Bristol, I finally managed to find the city center with its shopping centers but as it was getting late and most of them were closing , went back to for a walk by the harbor to make an idea about what I can visit the next 3 days.

How is to be a single female tourist in Bristol? What is to see and do? Is it safe and worth? Is Bath to be visited while on Bristol? Stay tuned and be part of Yanny’s Journey.

Let’s travel and discover: Torquay

img_20170613_150904Hellooo!! One of the best things about my ex-workplace was that it was extremely well situated between some lovely places to visit in Devon. One of this places was Torquay. Some of us prefer to go shopping, do yoga or read in order to relax and get rid of the stress. When I feel that I need a break, I travel. Anywhere, no matter how close or far. Me, myself and my phone. Oh and the music. Compulsory:). For more than 1 year, without exaggerating I have been visiting this place for at least once-twice monthly.

But why is Torquay so special? Well, it gives you everything you want to relax. I was usually going there in the morning and coming in the night. Torquay has a lovely beach and paths to walk by the sea.As in Paignton, a lot of seagulls too:).Both it’s worth it. There are also lots of coffee shops and restaurants, really affordable.

Things to do?

Shopping!!! – All type of stores, from family owned to high street ones. It’s impossible to go to Torquay and leave without something.

Living coasts- Penguin or seal lover? Then you have to see this. It’s a must-see of Torquay. As I was saying in my previous post, you can buy a combo ticket if you want to visit Paignton zoo too. But you definitely must visit it.Oh, and if you fancy a coffee, before the entrance, there is a coffee shop, which also sells food. They serve a yummy caramel-latte.

Babbacombe Model Village– suitable for everyone, it is a highly recommended activity to do while you are in Torquay. Please take plenty of time to visit. Both the village and living coasts require time to be fully visited.

Walk. You don’t have to go and do something specifically. Take a book and read by the beach. Admire the view, take photos and walk.Discover every part of Torquay. The good and the bad.

Torquay is a lovely place to go and visit. Escape the routine and try something new. Go and explore it. It has a lot to offer. Pay extra attention in the summer when it is really crowded,to avoid incidents. Overall, it is a highly recommended place to go.

Thanks for reading and continue to be part of Yanny’s journey:)

Let’s discover: Paignton, United Kingdom

Hello, beautiful people. As the weather outside is really cold and ugly,I was thinking to write about a more nicer and sunnier destination. Paignton is a lovely seaside city located in Devon, South West England.Together with Torquay and Brixham are creating Torbay area or better known as the English Riviera.

dav

Paignton is a holiday destination suitable for both short and long stays. It has a lot of things and places to keep the tourists busy and in the case you want to visit other near resorts, Torquay is the nearest( more about it, in the future posts).

So, what has Paignton has to offer?

1.Beach

If you love going for long walks on the beach, then you must go to Paignton. It is really clean , dog-friendly (you see dogs running all over the place 🙂 ) and a barefoot walk in the sand will make you forget about everything. Or you can have a coffee while you stay by the sea. There is a place on the beach which is open only in the summer, but the lady serving there is an absolute love and her coffee is amazing. The only advice I would have for you: if you want to eat on the beach, pay attention ,especially in the summer. The seagulls are a nightmare. I remember on one of my visits here, I was with a friend and a seagull stole his ice-cream . As the Britons would say: he wasn’t impressed 😂

2. Paignton Pier

Wonderland of Paignton :). The perfect place if you are with kids , or if you are an adult who never forgot to be a child. It has a large variety of games with plenty of prizes. Although these type of games can be seen in the city centre too, the Pier is definitely a must see.

3. ZOO

If you go and visit Paignton, do not miss the zoo. One of the most beautiful and large zoos’s I have ever seen (and I saw a few). The adult ticket is somewhere around £16 but if you want to visit Torquay, you can buy a combo ticket and gain entry to the zoo and the Living Coast in Torquay for approximately  £22 . Take at least 2-3 hours to visit everything. The most I stayed in there was for like 3 hours and a half. But it’s worthy. For both adults and kids.

4. Dartmouth Steam Railway

Are you passionate about steam trains? Then you must definitely arrange a day trip with Dartmouth Steam Railway. The price is £17.50 and it covers the train journey up to Kingswear and the ferry  from Kingswear to Dartmouth. It is an absolutely fantastic experience, with plenty of things and places to visit in Dartmouth (more coming soon)

sdr

5. Shopping

Compared to Torquay, it is poorer in terms of shopping places. But it has coffee shops , restaurants (especially by the seaside), food shops and souvenirs shops. And plenty of charity shops, from where you can buy new brand clothes for a bargain price.

But how to get to Paignton?

If you are a tourist and don’t have a car,the easiest way to get to Paignton is by train. Exeter-Paignton is taking an hour and it costs up to £10 return. And in the price, some amazing views are included too 🙂

To conclude, Paignton has everything a tourist can ask for: beach, sea , places to stay, to eat, tourist attractions , really beautiful views , friendly people and an amazing vibe.

Let’s discover: Best Seaside Resorts in Romania

dav

When you say seaside in Romania , you are not only saying Constanta but also its seaside resorts.

Some of the best seaside places to visit when you are in Romania are : Eforie Nord, Neptun, Mamaia,  and Vama Veche. But let’s discover them one by one.

dav

Eforie Nord:

Pros:

  • suitable for all types of tourists:single, couples, families
  • plenty of places to eat, shop and stay
  • lots of summer and water activities( try Eforie Aqua Park)

Cons:

  •     it gets overcrowded during the season (the beach is full)
  •     not too many tourist attractions or places to visit

Neptun

Pros:

  • one of the most beautiful seaside resorts
  • very good restaurants and shops
  • lovely beach
  • variety of things to do: day and night entertainment, walkings by the lake
  • water activities in the sea /lake

Cons:

  • more expensive than Eforie
  • during the season can be hard to find places at famous restaurants or bars

Vama Veche:

Pros:

  • the most bohemian seaside resort
  • the music never ends 🙂
  • if you prefer freedom and just want to have fun, you must come here
  • tent lover? then it’s definitely for you

Cons:

  • not recommended for people who prefer tranquility
  • not many posh places

Mamaia

Pros:

  • Best resort for having fun in all its ways
  • Large selection of restaurants and hotels
  • Lots of clubs (Fratelli and Loft are the most famous)
  • Tourist attractions and things to do (the holiday village is a must see)

Cons:

  • extremely populated during the season
  • the most expensive seaside resort
  • highly preferred by teenagers and adults but not so much by elders

As I visited all of them, I would highly recommend you to do it too. Each one has its beauty, attractions and story to offer. On the other hand, don’t go in Vama Veche and Neptun between mid of Sept- 1st of May as almost everything is closed  Mamaia and Eforie can be visited all year round. Also, during the season, be ready to deal with heavy traffic and some impolite drivers (especially if you are not from Constanta or its proximity).

But overall, coming to the seaside in Romania it is an experience. A lovely , funny and to remember one. It gives you everything: cheap prices, lots of activities, places to stay and tourist attractions, lovely people, freedom and happiness. And the most important: some of the nicest beaches to relax on and the Black Sea.
